We last visited Bali in Sept '08, prior to the execution of the Bali bombers. The locals were on tenterhooks as a result but should be more at ease now that chapter of their history is closed.
We found that Bali had changed enormously since our first visit in 1997. I must admit the odd Bintang always went down well - as did a few arak attacks. However, recently 20+ people DIED from drinking it so IMO give that local drink a wide berth.
