OGC has been a target since Duterte appointed the environmentalist Gina Lopez as his first Head of the DENR after he took office. She carried out a review of all the mines in the country. Oceana's operation at Didipio failed. MML's operations passed. Lopez was very controversial during her brief reign but her appointment was not confirmed by a Parliamentary committee so she was replaced.

Didipio's 25 year licence is up for renewal and I believe has been approved by all except the president. Environmental activists are trying to influence his decision. Hence the imposition of this blockade and protest to focus attention on the issues surrounding the mines operations.

Medusa has good relations with its work force and has good environmental credentials. This is the case now as it has always been.

Unfortunately uninformed investors are prone to panic as soon as a cloud appears on the horizon.
