that’s true. Humans seem to rather like having someone to hate. For whatever reason. And it’s foolish for no good can come if it. Well negativity itself. Have you ever journeyed with someone who is capable of reciting a steady stream of negativity. Everyone and everything is less than them, does something wrong, is inadequate, stupid or less than what they think is important. It’s exhausting to listen to. People do that on an individual, group or country level. It doesn’t make for a peaceful life that’s for sure and sometimes that disdain for others turns into anger or arguments or wars. A foolish waste of love, life and happiness to be sure.
Zionism has been around for a long time. The yearning for the promised land runs deep. The subject of Israel is , however vexed. Not talking about it doesn’t make it less vexed. Being a Zionist and a Jew is not automatic. My own family were Jews, zionists and Freemasons (at the same time - in the past) Some now live in Israel. Some don’t and some, while having deep ties to Israel, are not rabid zionists. I have family links to this

I get what he is saying but I don’t think I’m particularly comfortable with it. Actually I also have family ties to another pet hate - the great Jewish conspiracy of the rothschilds. Maybe if one of my family hadn’t got their money out of Austria and negotiated for baron Rothschild to be released by the Germans we wouldn’t have had the same amount of fun today blaming them for the worlds troubles.
I have links to another family on Melbourne which include a man who can recite the history of Israel with breathtaking speed who is an intense and fervent Zionist. I’m not. I’m not opposed but I rather think the way Israel was handed over was an ugly attempt at salving western guilt for ignoring the Jewish solution till it was too late and in the process deciding palestinians did not matter. Plus the fact that no other country really wanted that many Jews. So a Jewish state was convenient and played out historical dreams.
We can love and we can hate. We can be angry and sad. We can carry it in our hearts or heads and let it ruin our lives one way or the other. For to covet what others have, as some do is a road to misery if not in the short term at least in the long term.
Life really is too short for such silliness. Or maybe it’s long enough that such silliness makes for a long period of misery
