This 'Marketing/affiliate' concept strategically is a concern imo. Do yourself a favour and read Stratechery from Ben Thompson - specially Aggregation Theory. Afterpay are essentially wanting to own demand - putting them in direct competition with Amazon, Shopify, Ebay, Google, Facebook (which will embrace commerce more and more moving forward i.e Instagram/Facebook stores). Instead of playing the role of partner/enabler at the checkout, they're now wanting to own shoppers? I just don't see how this can work at scale - with increasing CAC (unless they can do what Airbnb did, and completely own organic), and the long road ahead to altering current consumer shopping intent - i.e starting search in Google, Instagram, Pinterest or Amazon/Ebay. Could be wrong, Could be right.
