US production capacity for the Virginia Class is too slow for requirements and the US will consequently need to refuel some old Los Angeles Class subs that would otherwise have been scrapped the roo.
Production and repair capacity in Adelaide may be useful more broadly BUT getting the first boat off the US line would be timely and cost effective.
Most importantly the proverbial baseball bat needs to be applied to anyone seeking to muck with the US specs. If spec changing idiots are allowed in the room costs will triple.
