The developer of the Cáceres lithium mine has created the Extremadura New Energies Foundation.

Extremadura New Energies, a company that promotes the construction of an underground lithium mine in Cáceres, has created the Extremadura New Energies Foundation (FENE), thereby fulfilling one of the commitments made by the entity. The purpose of this foundation is to reinvest in the city part of the profits obtained by the lithium processing plant that is intended to be implemented in the town and was created with an initial endowment of 30,000 euros that will increase as the associated business activity progresses.

FENE was born with a vocation of permanence and will have an indefinite character. Among its objectives are "to promote economic progress, social justice, equal opportunities, gender equality, and the promotion of knowledge, mainly in the province of Cáceres and Extremadura," according to a press release.

To this end, it will sponsor various cultural and sports activities, promote research and innovation programs, develop and support social and educational programs and act in the recovery, development and conservation of cultural heritage. In this sense, FENE is already studying rehabilitation projects for degraded areas and support for various city entities that will be announced shortly.

The first action of the new entity has been the signing of an agreement with the Fundación Secretariado Gitano, an agreement called "Alliance for the promotion of the incorporation into the labor market and for the integral promotion of the Roma community from the attention to cultural diversity ".

As established in this agreement, the Extremadura New Energies Foundation will support the specific training of the Roma population within the Green Hydrogen sector, energy storage, electric mobility and renewable energy. Likewise, economic development will be promoted in the interest of the Roma population "through the promotion of the establishment of business initiatives."

Both entities are committed to working to create an ideal ecosystem for economic growth, the fight against unemployment, the generation of opportunities, gender equality and the social benefit of the gypsy population from Cáceres and Extremadura.

It is also contemplated that the Extremadura New Energies Foundation will reserve six annual places for the training courses of the European Battery Academy 'EBA250' (industrial development program of the European Battery Alliance) taught by the Extremadura New Energy Academy at no cost to the Foundation Gypsy Secretariat, with the priority requirement that they must be assigned in equal proportion to men and women.

Finally, FENE contemplates the possibility of helping the Fundación Secretariado Gitano in relevant initiatives such as training courses to improve the employability of people participating in Socio-Labor Itineraries.

The Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Extremadura New Energies Foundation, Ramón Jiménez, has been very satisfied with the launch of the foundation, since "it means continuing to fulfill each and every one of our commitments to the city". Jiménez has indicated that the objective is that the economic activity generated by the lithium processing plant promoted by Extremadura New Energies "has as much repercussions as possible in improving the living conditions of the residents of Cáceres", and for that the Foundation was created .

For her part, Mercedes Moreno, territorial director of the Fundación Secretariado Gitano, explained that this is a "very important agreement because the employability of the Roma population, in this case of Cáceres, is a priority line for us".

Along these lines, he stressed that "we need the Roma community to be a participant in the changes in the city, to be trained and to be able to face the challenges that come in the future, and we believe that this agreement is very positive for achieving these objectives"
