The language barrier is frustrating to be sure... but so is the constant mañana.
This is becoming a hard stock to love, but not because of INF. Sr Ximeñez in particular has done the hard yards in convincing the locals to back the project, and he is to be commended for the efforts.
As for Socialists? The PSOE isn't particularly Socialist... more Social Democrat, like most similarly-named parties on the Continent, ie like the ALP, but slightly more to the Left.
Spain just happens to be a very anti-mining country, which, as I have previously pointed out, is a bit rich... as Spain became a Great Power off the backs of mines in other peoples' countries...
