Interesting concept.
Let's suppose for a moment that the government could have forseen your scenario. Which of course they couldn't. What if 50,000 had become 500,000 ? After all, those kinds of numbers were suggested early on.
So, lets pretend that it became public policy that they wouldn't do anything about Covid and let it run rampant and it supposedly killed 50,000.
Would we have put those 50,000 in hospital of would it have been, " if you have covid you don't get any health support at all " ?
If they did get health support, i.e hospital, ICU's across the country would be overwhelmed and people would have died from other ailments because the hospitals would have been full of covid patients. On top of that, many health professionals would be ill and/or dead and not be able to help anymore.
So, you'd have to compensate all those other people who couldn't get health services because of the covid overload.
Let's not forget that for our $90 billion we have kept businesses afloat and people in their homes. That has to be of a large financial benefit to the economy that will offset the job keeper money somewhat.
Would you really want to live in a country where the government chooses not to look after people and instead offers them a bit of compensation instead ? A dog eat dog policy depending on who is in government and who you are ?
Finally, do you think that a class action by the citizens of Australia against the government would only be $90 billion ?
You're dreaming mate.
A smoker ? Is that smoker passing lung cancer to everyone nearby that doesn't smoke ?
