A bit of an update from where I sit:
The situation has improved since Saturday morning. I believe that a coup was not just an idle threat, but came very close to actually happening. The military has stepped back from that position and the situation has calmed. There are some backchannel communications going on. But the tensions have not been resolved, and the reasons for the standoff developing in the first place are still there. The opening of the new parliament on Monday and Tuesday will be an important milestone and litmus test - if that goes ahead without incident, and the military MPs take their seats, things will be looking brighter. But if some sort of deal can't be worked out before then, the situation could still come to a head around parliament opening, which the military wants to delay.
