The Camp Google Earth Vs the latests sentinel shot
No idea on the plant as that period of time - decommissioning & demolition of equipment which would have residual value & be repurposed/redeployed particularly within a major mining company, could mean there is not much remaining.
However the blue camp swimming pool, the latest google map suggests the camp is still in operation, most likely with the demo/decommissioning crew. Which means the airport is also likely still operational...
So cost to build an airport - no need.
Accommodation village - it's 80km from the ADM village to the town of Durack so using that village may not be feasible, however....
I've worked remote at sites where they no longer required the village to accommodate the workforce & they literally were offering the entire village, including mess, ablutions, Water treatment, laundries etc for free to anyone who would remove the entire facility.
Not sure if that is on the cards here, but it would make good sense & imagine save RIO some money. Not sure what state the camp is in though.
The airport run of approx 100km is not out of the ordinary for FIFO.
