Hemming isn't a journo really, writes a small cap newsletter (Under the Radar) which is pretty successful.

Anyway, hadn't heard the rumour, but suspect there could some truth to it, especially with the strong buying.

I have actually been waiting for REA Group to do something, as they have said for the last 18 months that they are looking at overseas acquisition (hence their limited dividend payout). Both groups have big european (SeLoger, ImmobileScout) real estate companies on their register though, so could be interesting.

I also thought that cashing out of the ICQ shares was either an offensive or defensive move and that something may be happening.

PG has also spoken of listing at some point, potentially on the ASX, so backing them into iProperty in a merger might make sense, with synergies across the business and domination across 5 markets (SG, MY, IN, HK, TH).
