I am fairly certain Tesla will not eliminate the use of cobolt they are just significantly reducing it. Lots of battery manufacturers are hoping to reduce cobolt due to supply issues and cost. Many of the new technologies being planned are still some years away although it seems Tesla may be a little more advanced than others.

The reality is if it can be commercially recycled and onsold at a more palatable cost and the supply can meet the demand (thus keep the cost in check) then it will be still a key ingredient for most if not all battery manufacturers.

Hopefully NMT get this commercialised sooner rather than later.
