As I inferred in a previous post, these days nobody will win a war between the superpowers. Look up tactical hypersonic missiles capable of carrying small nuclear warheads. It will start with conventional warheads but could go nuclear. (After that it's ICBMs, land based or sub based, if both sides try to do real damage to whole countries and the world).

From what I've read Russia currently has the lead with the hypersonic tech so it might be why they want to settle the Ukraine issue before the West catches up, which won't take long. Putin has already said that he has no way of telling what's in the NATO missile launchers, including whether they contain hypersonic missiles, which could hit Moscow within 7 minutes or so.
