The difference between Kaolinite and Halloysite is the layer of H2o. The water layer may account for why SOME halloysite forms in NanoTubes ( Such as at Poochera )along with factors such as temperatures, geologic history etc. You either have one or the other or a combination of the two. The quality is dependent on the impurity levels Fe etc. The diagram above show the Aluminum ion in the centre of the molecular structure of both.
