The shorts know people will be selling for tax loss reasons so are probably helping the share price down a bit to cover at a lower price, towards the end of tax loss selling period. In the last 5 years it has been very obvious that tax loss selling has occurred during May and June on the ASX200, with July usually showing a strong rebound (often starting mid to late June)."

I hope share investors that do this realise that if they sell and then rebuy the stock in a short time frame. In the event of a tax office audit, they can get done for Part 4A tax avoidance. Under ATO share wash rules.

If you sell off and don't rebuy however, I don't see a problem.
