Yep, I agree, I think they're trying to get out at minimal losses, and at the moment they have time on their side until the next announcement drops, which could be any moment of course. In the meantime they have a small window to drive the price down and get out. Fundamentals for SPL looking better every day, the shorters will be gone for good by year's end I think. Between now and then it is getting riskier for them though as the good news pipeline starts to flow faster now that the main blockage has been removed.
