Worth having a look at the last 6 trading days for when ASIC data is available on the short selling of Clinuvel. So at the close of trade on 10th of January the price of CUV was $16.27 and the open shorts were 4.6%.
In the following 6 trading days from 11/01 to 18/01 the open shorts went from 4.60% to 4.76%. This 0.16% increase equates to about 80000 fake shares or fake liquidity introduced in just 6 days in this very lightly traded stock. Someone is really trying to control the CUV price action - and succeeding - the price was bumped down in those 6 days from $16.27 to $15.47. And this in a time of booming markets and when the loss making startup Disc is valued 3 times more than super profitable Clinuvel.
CUV comes out with all sorts of weird statements and comparisons but the truth is the price action is all about the shorting and the company never mentions this. The stock is very lightly traded and as it stands there has been fake liquidity introduced to the tune of some 2.4 Million fake shares out of just 50Million shares on issue over the last several years. The price is manipulated constantly and without all this fake shares and manipulation (including elimination from the ASX200) where would the share price be right now?
The company urgently needs to combat the short selling and implement a share buyback. There is no reason this is not possible IMO and the most recent 6 days trading with ASIC data shows just how much influence the shorters have over this stock. Conversely a share buyback where $20 - $30 Million was allocated for this would enable buying of real shares each day over a long term to bring some normalcy to the trading in this company. A buyback would reduce the number of shares on issue, and benefit EPS and financials forever, and it would definitely act towards protecting shareholder interests. Remember the company just told us how one institution buying a lot of shares in one month was enough to take the share price over $40 (Sep 21).
