The reporters are just accepting what they are given and if it fits their ideals are reporting it as fact. There is no critical thinking which has led to poor decisions being made. Same with the politics. Tell people what they want to hear.
With the ACT 100% claim we know that their winter demand is higher than summer and we know the wind/solar does not work so well in winter. Therefore if the capacity factors in winter are lower than what they have given we could calculate the storage required pretty easy.
