As I said earlier, has nothing to do with the machine. Progressives are controlled by the host (In our case JUPs).
The algorithm to "take a small percentage and add towards a progressive jackpot" has a patent on it (Even though the guy who developed it was working for JUPs at the time).
All the machines do is display the jackpots sent by the monitoring software. If you want more information, have a look at QOGR's (EGM protocol) documents.
