index providers have "buffer rules". eg. say a stock is 280th largest. it goes in. but if it drops to say 315th at next Re bal it stays in.
has to drop to say < 320th in size to be forced out. this lowers turnover which is a major drag on index funds (costs. tax etc). there would be methodology for the index in the providers web site eg S+P.
