THANKS FOR ALL THE REPLIES EVERYONE

    woops caps lock on

now i realise that the average price has nothing to do with any capital gains / losses - feel like a dill for not realising this

my next question is : how do i work out what shares i'm actually selling - i have a bell direct account and when i want to sell a parcel i just sell how ever many i want -but if i bought lets say TSE for 10,9,7,4 and 1.25 (which i did do -classic falling knife behaviour during the GFC) and then sold a small parcel a few months ago for $4 (which i did do) -how do i go about finding out what actual shares i sold - was it the 10 dollar ones was it the 1.25 ones - was it a mixture - i have no idea - and how do i in future make sure i sell the parcel of shares i want to sell

    thanks
