So I wonder what actually happened to Starpharma’s research agreement with one of the biggest pharmaceutical companies in the world.
In the past I’ve shown Starpharma AGM presentation slides referencing to Eli Lilly and their corporate logo which over time seemed to gradually disappear from the face of the earth. Was there ever an ASX announcement specifically acknowledging the partnership was terminated or did shareholders just find out during a Q&A at an AGM years later? I don’t recall.
This excerpt is from the Starpharma 2010 Annual Report (yes Jackie Fairley was CEO):
“In February 2010, Starpharma announced that its dendrimer drug delivery technology will be applied to enhance compounds in Lilly’s human pharmaceutical portfolio.Under the terms of the agreement Lilly will fund a collaborative research and development program with the aim of creating improved drugs incorporating Starpharma’s proprietary delivery technology, to be commercialised by Lilly.This agreement is separate and additional to the contract signed in May 2009 in which it was agreed that Starpharma and Lilly’s animal health division, Elanco, would work together to develop new animal health products with enhanced properties.”
So I wonder out loud why this ‘partnership’ (sounds familiar to GSK, Chase Sun, Shenyang Sky and Latex, etc, etc, etc) withered and died without fanfare and did not progress to the clinic.
