Mohhamad as a 'prophet of God' wanted to unite and incorporate Judaism and Christianity into his new religion, which is why he 'recognised' Jesus as a prophet of God and borrowed theology from both religions.
    ---------------------
This is much the same tactic used by Constantine.

    ----------------------------------------------------------

    Yes, of course.
All known religions do the same.
Judaism borrowed from earlier beliefs and added their slant in their "sacred" writings.
Christianity borrowed from Judaism and Greek philosophy adding their slant by adding the NT and reinterpreting the Jewish scripture.
Constantine chose scripture for the Christian Bible and reinterpreted for political reasons to achieve unity among fragmented Christian groups of the time.
Unity was not achieved with the fragmentation into many more Bible based sects.
These fragments include the current Watchtower Jehovah's Witnesses who reshaped scripture in a special translation (NWT) to suit their doctrine. Watchtower took their doctrine further than most sects (but not all) with the rebranding of the identity of Jesus and Jesus's teachings.
