dolor: Malta kind of "out of left field" would certainly be most pleasing for sure! But who knows if those "rebels" in Libya are or will be easier to deal with than the current regime. One would hope that they would like to curry some favours with the nations that help them now to get to power by bombing the other side. Time will tell.
Malta fields after all are potential ELEPHANTS as well, which brings me to
redinvest: Is it not more likely, that GAS will be in place instead of oil... (going by the experience from further south)?? Personally, I would prefer oil. But most important is that they will in fact find either oil or gas; both are valuable in big quantities !!
