    Hi Reichman - I replied to your question this morning or so I thought - cannot find it on a quick search - but the short version was that a great game of sport (whatever persuasion) is a marvellous spectacle & as such has been used since the days of the Roman empire to keep the masses contented & less likely to focus on the hardcore of the daily grind.

    It is also big business & therein is another reason to fleece the flock with over the top admission prices - not that you have to attend.
