What both you and Mr Gordon conveniently ignore is the word 'could' - it could be taken that way if you don't have sufficient information or understanding of evolution.....which Sagan goes on to explain. Which is the whole point of the issue, the misrepresentation being pushed without consideration of what Sagan was saying, ie, quote mining by theists who refuse to acknowledge the errors of their ways even when it has been explained to them several times and the relevant information provided.
Once again, Sagan was not a creationist. His remark is in relation to the risk of making false assumptions based on insufficient information.
We have sufficient information to prove the reality of evolution.
