The same - find out what their passion is, and set them on that path with livable monetary support. Caveat being the older cohort are so mentally damaged or addicted to something harmful that said generational adversities have rendered them irredeemable. Forever damaged by the societal adversities it is incumbent upon society to pay them a reasonable living income, so they are not forced to commit criminal acts - either out of resentment for the system, or to make ends meet.
