To Trade or Not to Trade -That is the question

So, can you "out time the market"? That is the challenge for all of us if we decide to trade our stock. All we want to do is sell today and buy back on another day day for less - sounds simple enough. I've tried both courses, trading and holding - I've traded some stock big time churning away making some losing some and at the end of the day I'd have been better off buying and sitting. My fear with SPL is that I could sell "today" for a profit and wait for lower "tomorrow" to get back in for less BUT a huge announcement occures while I'm out of the stock and the share goes balistic and I'm locked out. So I hold. I wonder how many of the thousands of followers of SPL on HC feel about Trading or Holding? The answers will be interesting.
