Logic is not your strong point.
POTUS resides in the white house, on the 20th January 2021 Biden was sworn in as president. On that day became a former president and moved to Mar-A-Lago, so from then on Trump was a private citizen and had no right to have documents that belong to the government.
In a nut shell, Trump was not POTUS when he had the documents
