Alan Partridge, you need to check the figure on federal funding for private schools again - NOT just what's provided for teaching staff but also as infrastructure grants etc.

Private schools are however a lifestyle choice and in some OECD nation with whom our academic results are compared, either don't exist or do not receive public funds at all. eg. Finland funds education to 6.5% of GDP but has almost NO private schools and wonderful academic results [they even adopted some Australian teaching methods].

If you have the courage, now look at how little is provided to public schools in Australia.
