Tony would pull maybe 30% of the population whereas Malcolm can pull 20%. Few of the 20% would vote for Tony because they now know how hollow he is. Your love of him is simply that he carried out Liberal policy.

Malcolm was elected to try and save as many seats as possible vs Tony who was on track to lose heaps.

Even if Bill can't get his tax rises through the Senate then he plans to borrow the cash, just like Wayne did, easy peasy.

Western democracies are on the same trajectory that led Greece into bankruptcy. Dumb opportunistic spend-a-lot politicians tend to get elected before "dummies" who run on a "Live within your means" platform.
