There is a Priority Review Pathway for Medical Devices - the challenge is to meet defined criteria to enter that pathway, and the TGA will meet to discuss your application (sounds familiar?). It appears very rigorous.

A quick look at the register highlights some products sold over the counter such as saline nasal sprays which as most of us know are little more than a liquid wash of the nasal passage, there are many other examples of products which purport to be a remedy yet clearly the provisos attached are cleverly worded.

The TGA have an obligation to protect public health and that could be a case of "well how long is a piece of string?", particulary during Covid , and applications for products even mentioning the virus name.
