In most cases the virus stay in the nose and bronchial passages and this results in mild infection. If the virus crosses into the bloodstream then you have much more serious infection which can impact organs permanently (the so named Long covid) and is the major cause of death.

I would also draw your attention to Scripps work which documented that Viraleze works on infected tissue as well as preventing infection.

So maybe we have both a prophylactic and a treatment (but only for initial infection).
