    Re the $1 trillion. I remember in the lead up to the war when Bush got a bureaucrat from the US govt General Accounting Office to do a costing of the prospective war. The figure that was arrived at by the GAO team was $300 bn, which was not an acceptable answer, as the figure required was(from memory) something like $60bn, a reasonably easy sell to the US public. Response....sack the GAO team and repeat the $60bn mantra till everyone is sick of hearing about it then drop the concept of cost altogether.
