Sharing the existing infrastructure has always been the best method, and I'm not so sure MLM had as many ducks in a row as they stated in regards to the ability to barge from their port access.
I think the takeover was more based on just having 1 small Aussie company to deal with and get product to market.
Mitsubishi, as stated here many times before, DO NOT own the port up there.
