    Hi zero,

"I live in Australia, where around 3,500 die from influenza related symptoms each year. How many have, or do you foresee, will die from the corona virus here in Australia this year?"

Imho, with our failed containment plan the number of deaths from COVID-19 in Australia could easily exceed 100,000 this year.

While this figure might appear outrageous given the number of positive cases only stands at 75 with 3 reported deaths, unlike influenza no one in Australia has immunity to COVID-19 and it is highly infectious. Exacerbating the issue is our Governments lax measures with airport screening and tracking fellow passengers where positive inbound cases were diagnosed. We should've been a lot more focused on containment in the early stages to control local transmission instead of handing out a couple of pamphlets at the boarders and the ongoing promotion of large sporting events and other mass gathering. Despite continued reassurances there is certainly no hospital surge capacity for the road which we are traveling...
