With regard to renewables/smelting, I recall there was quite a bit of discussion about 5 years ago regarding a bay/inlet up that way with 40ft tides that were being considered for harnessing on the way in and the way out to generate power. Think hydrogen production was in there somewhere. Like many good ideas it did not get off the ground.
The reduction in sea transport (of iron/coal) would go someway to countering pollution and financial savings would be considerable.
