I don't see it as "offensive". The OT and NT is an account of the lives of people who followed the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. It provides for all of life's experiences and challenges from an emotional, spiritual and physical sense not too different to what we have to consider today but in a different context. How do we handle all the PC crap we are fed daily? In the past 100 years, for example, we've had wars, murders, genocide, slavery and from those events "people" and countries take away positives and negatives. The biblc, NT or OT helps people build character. Preferably GOOD character. Unfortunately, many people think Jesus was a long haired, soft, gentle wimpish fellow who roamed the countryside in long robes all his life. Nothing could be further from the truth. He was a carpenter. Hard working, strong with short hair. He would have worked outside, been tanned and been strong and muscular. His Ministry lasted 3 years and he had the absolute crap beaten out of him and he was scourged before being nailed to a cross and left to die. Oh and then had a spear shoved through his side. He had some big kahunas that's for sure.
