your views on shorting

I seem to recall that the stock exchange was a way for companies to raise capital and then provide a market for transferring shares between buyers and sellers.

I have a view that shorters are not a good thing for people who are trying to build companies and provide a quick way for deep pocket hedge funds and instos to push priced around. i.e. selling until they "seemingly" break a TA and then cover very quickly. I know that everyone is trying to make a dollar, but I think that it often ends up as opportunistic behaviour that hurt the believers and real supporters.
