Truth can be determined a whole bunch of different ways. Some people think it's ok to use emotion, some think intuition is ok, some use consensus rule, some use consistency... and so on. Too confusing. Jesus said this, Buddha said that, Mohammed said this.... Who is going to make sense of all these conflicting ideas?
Personally, I like Descartes intellectual honesty and ruthless truth-seeking attitude. He readily admits there's nothing he can know for certain other than "I think, therefore I exist". And he works form that starting point. Good on him!
