The "statistics" China puts out on cases & deaths are hardly credible for its population size when compared with numbers for European countries or America. Personally I believe they just plain lie about this like they do about most things.
There is another possibility: maybe they are able to control it within proportionally tiny limits because they invented it and know everything about it.
